2018 Guillen Vineyard
Planted in 2001 at 870' elevation, Guillen Vineyard enjoys a long, cool growing season that consistently results in complex wines with great character, elegance and freshness. The vineyard rests on volcanic Jory soils along the north side of the White Rose Estate. Originally planted to Dijon 115 clone on American rootstock, in 2015 we top grafted one third of the vineyard to Pommard clone cut from our original 1978 planting of White Rose Vineyard Pinot noir.
"Limpid magenta. Mineral- and spice-tinged aromas of ripe red and blue fruits are complicated by suggestions of licorice and musky earth. Silky and pliant on the palate, offering bitter cherry, raspberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors sweetened by a hint of candied flowers. Subtle, rounded tannins come up slowly on a finely etched finish that lingers with impressive, floral-driven persistence" - 94 points. Josh Raynolds, Vinous.
